Freelancer payment platforms compared: what each one actually does
These tools are not substitutes for each other. Wise and Payoneer are payment rails: excellent at moving money, but they do not produce contracts, collect tax forms or give your client a domestic invoice. Deel is built primarily for companies hiring contractors and employees at scale, with contractor management and EOR services. Ruul, Abillio and Useme are merchant-of-record platforms for individual freelancers, invoicing in their own name across different regions. PANORAMA SYSTEMS FLORIDA LLC is a US merchant of record focused on one job: letting vendors outside the US bill US, Canadian and EU clients from an American entity. Pick by which problem you have — moving money, managing a workforce, or being payable by a client who wants a domestic supplier.

Payment rails: Wise, Payoneer
Multi-currency accounts with local receiving details and transparent transfer pricing. They solve "how does the money reach my bank", which is a real problem. They do not solve "my client will not onboard a foreign vendor", because no invoice from a domestic supplier is involved. Many vendors use one as the destination for a merchant-of-record payout.
Workforce platforms: Deel and similar
Built around a company hiring many people: contractor agreements, compliance checks, payroll and employer-of-record services across a long list of countries. Powerful, and priced for a company's budget rather than a freelancer's. The buyer is the client, not you.
Merchant-of-record platforms
Ruul, Abillio and Useme all issue invoices on a freelancer's behalf, with different regional strengths — Useme is strongest in Poland and the EU, Abillio across the EU and beyond, Ruul globally. They typically charge a percentage of each payout. Compare on three things: whether they invoice from the region your client is in, which payout rails they support in your country, and whether the fee is a single percentage or a percentage plus an FX spread.
Where PANORAMA SYSTEMS fits
A US merchant of record with a narrow focus: vendors outside the United States invoicing US, Canadian and EU clients, from a Florida entity, with a W-9 available and settlement on whichever rails actually work in the vendor's country. One platform fee is deducted from each paid invoice — 10% by default, or an individually agreed rate. There is no monthly subscription, no per-seat charge and no separate FX markup. Country restrictions are published before registration rather than discovered at payout.
Frequently asked
Can I use more than one?+
Yes, and it is usually the right answer. A merchant of record for invoicing plus a multi-currency account as the payout destination covers both problems without either tool doing something it is bad at.
How do I compare fees honestly?+
Add three numbers: the headline percentage, the FX spread on converting to your currency, and any withdrawal fee. A platform with a lower percentage and a wider spread can easily cost more. Ask each one what rate they use and when it is fixed.
What should make me walk away?+
A platform that cannot tell you which payout rails work in your country, or that discovers a restriction after you have delivered the work. That information exists before you sign up, and you are entitled to it.
