How to receive ACH payments as a non-US freelancer
ACH is the United States' domestic bank network: it only moves money between US accounts, so a freelancer abroad cannot receive ACH directly into a foreign bank. There are two working routes. A US virtual account from a fintech gives you American receiving details in your own name — the transfer becomes domestic, though the vendor in your client's books is still foreign. A US merchant of record goes further: your client pays a US company (PANORAMA SYSTEMS FLORIDA LLC) by ordinary ACH, receives a W-9 on request, and the platform settles your net amount to your bank, Wise or USDT. The first route fixes the transfer; the second also fixes the paperwork.

Step by step
- 1
Ask how your client prefers to pay
Most US companies default to ACH for domestic vendors and treat international wires as an exception that needs approval. Knowing which door you are walking through decides the route.
- 2
Choose the route
If the client is happy to onboard a foreign vendor and only the transfer is the problem, US receiving details in your name are enough. If their accounting prefers a domestic supplier, invoice through a US merchant of record instead.
- 3
Issue the invoice
Through a merchant of record, the invoice is issued in the name of PANORAMA SYSTEMS FLORIDA LLC with US bank details on it, and your client pays it like any other domestic bill.
- 4
Withdraw
Your net amount is credited as the payment clears. Withdrawal rails depend on your country: bank transfer, Wise, or USDT on the network you choose.
Why US clients push for ACH
An ACH payment is cheap for the payer, batched into the normal payables run, and reconciles automatically. An international wire is the opposite on every count: a per-payment fee, currency questions, and an exception in the process. When a client says "we pay by ACH", they are describing their accounting system, not negotiating — the practical move is to become payable inside that system rather than argue for an exception.
What a US virtual account does and does not change
Fintechs can issue routing and account numbers in your name that accept ACH. The money then still needs to cross the border to you, with that provider's conversion applied. What has not changed is the vendor: your client's books still show a foreign individual, with W-8 paperwork and whatever vendor-onboarding questions their process asks. For many client relationships that is fine; for risk-averse finance departments it is the sticking point.
What a merchant of record changes
The client's counterparty becomes a US company. They collect a W-9 from it, pay by domestic ACH, and book a domestic expense — their process runs as if you were across the street. Your contract is with the merchant of record, which is also what makes the arrangement inspectable: every step has a document. One platform fee is deducted from each paid invoice — 10% by default, or an individually agreed rate. There is no monthly subscription, no per-seat charge and no separate FX markup.
What stays your responsibility
Your own taxes, where you live, on what you earn. Receiving dollars through any route on this page does not change your obligations at home, and none of this is tax advice.
Frequently asked
Can ACH reach a foreign bank account directly?+
No. ACH is a domestic US network. What providers call "international ACH" is an ACH leg inside the US followed by a cross-border transfer — someone always owns that second leg, and its cost and speed are where offers differ.
Is a wire better than ACH for me?+
A wire can reach a foreign account directly, but it costs the payer money and attention, which quietly biases them toward domestic vendors. Making ACH work is usually worth more than negotiating wires client by client.
What does my client see if I use a merchant of record?+
An invoice from PANORAMA SYSTEMS FLORIDA LLC, US bank details, and a W-9 on request. Your name appears in the statement of work, not in their vendor master data.
How fast is the whole chain?+
ACH itself clears in one to three business days. Your balance is credited as the payment clears; withdrawal speed then depends on the rail — crypto in minutes, bank rails in days.
