When you need one
The product exists but the logic is spread across the frontend, a spreadsheet and somebody head. Or you are integrating a system whose documentation is a PDF from 2019.
A schema you can read, the riskiest endpoint rewritten with tests around it, and a list of the assumptions the current code makes that are no longer true.
How the engagement works

Not without a written plan and a restore tested first. Every schema change ships as a migration that can be reversed, and we say in advance which ones cannot.
Can one backend engineer replace an agency team?
